Since March 2020 and continuing to this day, the industry has seen segregated fund gross sales reach numbers that were last seen in 2007.

What has driven this sudden renewed interest in segregated funds? 

Is it that the protective features and their application as risk management vehicles has greater appeal as a fall-out from the COVID-19 pandemic? Have Canadian investors come to realize that the means and the end are equally as important to their retirement outcome? Meaning, they know that capital market participation is necessary – but they also know that they are not willing to participate at the cost of losing control over their desired outcome. Do segregated fund’s protective features in the form of maturity and death guarantees give Canadian investors the ability to feel in control of the outcome range that they are comfortable with?

During this webinar that aired live on Monday, December 6, 2021 at 2:00 pm ET, Michael Finke will present his findings from a study that was designed to answer this very question: “Is an investor willing to forego upside growth potential in order to protect against downside risk?” And if so, what would they be willing to give up by having this guarantee?
