NASAA conference to examine new NAFTA’s impact on the financial sector

The new U.S.-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) trade deal has yet to be ratified

U.S. state regulators and Canadian regulators are holding a policy conference that will examine the impact on the new North American trade deal on the investment industry, among other subjects.

The North American Securities Administrators Association’s (NASAA) says that the new U.S.-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) trade deal and its effects on the investment industry will be one of the primary topics of its upcoming public policy roundtable on May 20 in Washington, D.C.

The meeting’s featured speaker will be one of Canada’s trade negotiators, Colin Bird, minister-counsellor of economic and trade policy with the Canadian embassy in Washington, who will discuss the implications of the deal for the investment industry.

That deal, which was reached last fall to replace NAFTA, has yet to be ratified.

There will also be two panel discussions, one focusing on corporate governance issues, such as the rise of ESG investing, proxy advisory firms and dual-class shares; while the other will focus on significant enforcement actions by U.S. state regulators.
