Jacques Potvin to succeed Réne Chabot as chief actuary at IA

Chabot will retire in 2018 after more than three decades of service

Jacques Potvin, vice president and chief risk officer at Quebec City-based Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services Inc. will succeed René Chabot as chief actuary starting Feb. 16, 2018, the firm announced Thursday.

Chabot — who joined IA in 1983 — will retire on Feb. 15, 2018 after more than three decades of service. He became chief actuary in 2010 and has been a member of the firm’s strategic planning committee since 2012.

“In addition to [Chabot’s] trademark passion and energy that he brings to every endeavour, I want to pay special tribute to his unique blend of high-performance leadership and a sense of urgency dedicated to serving the long-term interests of IA Financial Group,” says Yvon Charest, president and chief executive officer at IA, in a statement.

Potvin, a graduate of Université Laval in actuarial sciences, is a 27-year veteran with the company. He has occupied a variety of functions including corporate actuarial services, individual insurance sales and marketing, internal audit and capital management.
