Desjardins appoints new chief economist

Jimmy Jean succeeds François Dupuis, who is retiring after more than 30 years with Desjardins

Jimmy Jean is taking on the role of chief economist for Desjardins Group following the retirement of François Dupuis, the company announced on Wednesday.

Jean — whose full title is now vice-president, strategist and chief economist — has worked for Desjardins Group’s Economic Studies for almost 10 years, most recently as senior economist and macroeconomic strategist.

Dupuis is retiring after a 33-year career with Desjardins.

“I’d like to thank François for making a difference at Desjardins over the years and for helping his team of economists shine within and outside Desjardins,” said Alain Leprohon, executive vice-president of finance, treasury and administration, in a release. “Desjardins Economic Studies have become a benchmark for analysis and economic forecasting in Canada and abroad.”

Jean has expertise in macroeconomic research and forecasting as well as monetary policy and fixed-income analysis, the release said.
