A new parliamentary caucus that cuts across party lines has been formed to engage with the credit-union community, according to a statement from the Canadian Credit Union Association (CCUA) released Wednesday.
With this forum, the statement says, representatives with financial co-operative will have a platform to work with members of parliament (MPs) and the Senate to “address community concerns” in the ridings they serve.
“We are encouraged by the real interest among MPs to work closer with credit unions and with each other to better understand how our co-operative structure leads to good public policy outcomes for their constituents,” says Martha Durdin, president and CEO of CCUA, in a statement.
MPs Elizabeth May (leader of the Green Party of Canada), Francesco Sorbara (Liberals), Dan Albas (Conservatives) and Alexandre Boulerice (New Democrats) are among the founding members of the caucus.
This is the first federal caucus devoted to credit unions.
